A Mechanic Shop

Canvassing with OHC has been a completely different experience for me compared to other canvassing programs that I have been. OHC is organized, timely, healthy, and over all has the spirit of mission work, it’s about saving souls not  just selling books. God blesses those who are faithful to Him, and if we are doing His will He blesses our efforts of spreading the gospel. After all it’s His work, He wants us to be successful, He wants us to learn through experience and be witnesses of His marvelous works. By canvassing and working alongside these students, I was convicted that I wanted to become one as well. So now I have left New York, and am now studying theology. These students have changed my life forever.

I have another experience that stands out in my mind. This one is from my previous canvassing program at New Albany Mississippi. I was dropped off on a lonely street. I looked around and there weren’t many cars around. Then I saw a car dealerships, mechanic shops, and a few other stores and restaurants. So I started walking towards them. I started to feel the heat as I was being a wonderful companion to the burning Mississippi sun. I was sweating buckets by now, but I kept going. As I was talking to person after person, I was  remembering how privileged I was to be one of God’s missionaries. How even angels want to do this work and I am the blessed one that gets to do it, I am privileged to see God’s miracles. As I was walking I entered this mechanic shop, with some toll trucks outside and a biker team. I said to myself, “Mississippians are nice people” , but I didn’t know what to expect. Not thinking much about it and with the assurance that God has overcome every trail and situation, I walked up without hesitation.

I opened the door of the main lobby and saw some sculptures of skulls and a beautiful cross made out of tools. A nice lady came out front and was still talking on the phone with a smile on her face she asked me to wait. Her name is Anny, she had gotten book the last time that the school had been there two years ago. She told me that she had gotten 3 books before and that they have been a blessing for Her and her husband. So she was eager for more! She got three more and asked for us to come back any time that we were in the area so she can get even more. Anny, a middle age smiley lady with a biker look,  that she didn’t like the fact that she had to wait for us to come every few years, and that she would like us to pass by more often. I told her that she didn’t need to wait, that I knew churches that promoted all our materials and that I was able to put them in contact with her. She was so excited and she signed up for health programs, free literature and Bible studies! We prayed and with my heart moved with joy I left that mechanic Shop called Anny’s.

This shows me how people really want the Lord, how these books are a blessing to reach others for salvation and how God can use a sweaty canvasser.
